Hyper means to stretch something beyond it’s limits. And sutra is a Sanskrit word for thread. It’s where we get the word suture — a surgical stitch. Sutra is also the name for a collection of short, condensed ideas — a bundle of threads that readers can weave together in new ways.
Our culture is splitting apart at the seams. We can all feel this happening. Socially, psychologically, politically, technologically, we’re tearing apart.
The Hyper Sutra is a meditation on how everything in our culture is being stretched beyond its limits—and what it might mean to stitch things back together.
It’s not a book exactly. It has no beginning, middle or end. It’s a collection of hypertext threads that can be woven together in countless different ways. A hypertext sutra. Well, that’s what it’s going to be anyways. Things are just getting started around here.
